Own Way Rider tours in this
1956 Flxible vl-100 bus that was previously owned by: Ferlin Husky,
Kitty Wells, Bill Monroe, Lonzo and Oscar, Gary Brewer and the Kentucky
Ramblers. Bill Monroe nicknamed this bus "The Bluegrass
Breakdown", and used it for about 10 years. Peter Rowan used to
drive this bus and has a lot of stories about it and even has a chapter
in his book about the bus. Del McCoury also drove this bus and
claims that it was his favorite bus to drive to this date.
We took the bus to Nashville on
our maiden voyage and ended up living there for three years. We
Parked it on Broadway in front of Tootsies to play for the Ryman
Auditorium Bluegrass Block Party. We also used to park the bus at
Music Valley Village behind the stage. We would play two shows a
day the the outdoor stage and then play the Nashville Palace. We
have had the bus at Bean Blossom, and Poppy Mountain. We always
set times for the audience to get a tour of our bus and a little
history about it.
We really love the old
bus and its heritage and history. We have called it home for many
years and hate to have to let it go, but we are now taking offers on
the bus and plan on selling it. This is Bill Monroes biggest
artifact!! Please contact us at DavidLee@onewayrider.com
